Schoolgirl Annabel Mudge, 16, has achieved a perfect attendance record at Thomas Gainsborough School.

During her five years at the Great Cornard school, Annabel never missed a day.

Earlier this year, she fell and twisted her ankle, putting her perfect record at risk. Determined not to miss school, she turned up on crutches.

Annabel is awaiting her GCSE results to go to college to study musical theatre. Her ambition is to appear on a West End stage, and she has already performed with Roy Hudd in Goodnight Mr Tom at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds.

She said: “I slept for a week after leaving school. My friends don’t know how I did it, but I said to myself ‘I’m going to do this’. I’m very determined and hopefully it shows employers that I’m reliable.”

Annabel’s mum, Elaine Thom, said: “We are very proud of her. She only had time off for educational activities.

“When you consider that for the past three years she was taking part in theatre productions while at school, sometimes not getting back until 10pm, you realise how completely dedicated and determined she is.”
