Stansted Airport baggage security workers to strike in pay row

Workers who operate the security scanners for luggage at Stansted airport are to stage two strikes in a row over pay.

Members of the GMB union will take industrial action on Sunday, 23 August and on Bank Holiday Monday.

The strike action on Sunday 23 will take place from 3.45am through until 1pm, and on Monday 31 from 3.45am to 11.59pm.

The workers, who are employed by private contractor Mitie, voted by 87%, in a turnout of 80%, to strike in support of their claim for a 3% pay rise.

Around 30 workers are involved in the dispute.

They have rejected a 1.5% offer from the company.
