MEMBERS of a community Speed Watch project were out in force at the weekend.
Volunteers from Long Melford took to the streets on Saturday as part of a national event to highlight the invaluable work those involved in the initiative undertake.
Inspector Bruce Gent, from Suffolk Police’s road policing unit, said the volunteers played a vital role in helping make the county’s roads safer.
“Inappropriate and excess speeding is one of the main reasons for death and serious injury on many roads,” he said.
“The Speed Watch initiative allows volunteers to address speeding in their own community in partnership with the police and parish councils.”
The main objectives of the scheme are to reduce the number of speeding drivers and to re-educate people on the dangers of driving too fast.
