As part of the nation’s Remembrance of the Battle of the Somme the Royal British Legion Branch in Long Melford is holding a commemoration event at the War Memorial, Holy Trinity Church on July 1.

The event runs from 10.50-11.30am, when the signal to ‘go over the top’ - and all those who were lost and wounded in the battle 100 years ago - will be commemorated.

One of the original whistles that was brought back to Long Melford from the Somme will be blown. It was used by a local man RSM W. Goody MM MC.
