More than £1,000 was raised for a St Nicholas Hospice Care after a Long Melford man had his head and beard shaved in memory of his friend.

Paul Lane, who is known as Santa by his friends, prepared to face the clippers as a thank you to the hospice for caring for his friend, Peter Bryant.

Community fundraiser George Chilvers said: “The money Peter’s family and friends raised in his memory will make a huge difference to the Hospice and those we care for.”

So far the group has raised £1,108.87 after they asked for donations to be made to the charity instead of flowers at Peter’s funeral.
