Hobbs Lane in Glemsford will be closed to vehicles next week as roadworks are carried out.
Suffolk County Council intends to close the road, which runs north from Lower Road to Park Lane, from Monday to Friday for highway maintenance.
Hobbs Lane will be open to pedestrians and cyclists, with the council diverting other traffic along Lower Road, the B1065 and Park Lane – a distance of two-and-three-quarter miles.
Matt Watkins, from Suffolk County Council, said: “The reason we have not suggested Flax Lane as a diversion route is we have to use, where possible, like-for-like roads.
“Having looked at the volume of traffic that uses Hobbs Lane, it would be unsuitable to try to send buses and large vehicles down Flax Lane.”
