A Suffolk clergyman is to face a retrial over allegations he defrauded his own church.

Last November a jury at Ipswich Crown Court failed to reach a verdict after hearing evidence in the case of the Rev Ian Finn, who is Rector of St Mary the Virgin in Haverhill, Rural Dean of Clare and an Honorary Canon of St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

Today it was decided a retrial would take place in early January next year, which is expected to last up to six days.

Rev Finn, 57, of Hopton Rise, Haverhill, has been accused of fraud by abuse of position in respect of undeclared fees for funerals and the reading of wedding banns.

It is alleged he committed the offence in Haverhill between June 2007 and March 2014.

Judge David Goodin granted Rev Finn bail until his next court appearance.
