Race for Life Bury St Edmunds event postponed
Today’s Race for Life event in Bury St Edmunds has been cancelled due to safety concerns following flooding overnight at Nowton Park – but it will be rearranged.
Organisers of the Cancer Research UK fund-raiser made the difficult decision just before 9am today because the roads leading to the park were flooded, the course itself had become waterlogged and four of the park’s six car parks had also flooded, reducing the number of parking spaces from 1,500 to about 500.
Leander Platten, event organiser for Race for Life in Suffolk, was quick to stress that today’s event had only been postponed and a replacement date would be fixed early next week.
He said any participants unable to make the new date would be able to use their entry in another local event.
The following statement was sent to participants by email: “Due to recent weather conditions the course has become unsafe and as result we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will update you on a new date as soon as possible.
“If you have any questions or would like more information please contact our hotline on 0845 600 6050. “Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday (and bank holidays) 9am to 5pm.”
