Long Melford Street Fair’s new beginnings as a community-run event started with a flourish as visitors, stall holders and local businesses were full of praise for the organisers.
Stuart Poole, chairman of the Long Melford Street Fair Volunteer Group, was delighted with the response.
He said: “It went exceptionally well, we had amazing weather and the atmosphere was great.
“There were thousands of people there and with the South Stage it meant it was packed from St Catherine’s Road to the Bull Hotel.”
Mr Poole, who along with his daughter Jess spent around 300 hours organising the event with the support of the small group of volunteers, said he had received around 100 letters of support from visitors, stall holders and local business owners.
The volunteer group’s Facebook page was also full of comments complimenting the event and the organisers.
This year the volunteer group took over from the parish council after it was initially cancelled.
Mr Poole has already set his sights on next year, hoping to build on this year’s success.
To achieve this he is looking for more volunteers who are willing to help out in the build-up to the event.
The event also saw funds raised for the Kernos Centre in Sudbury, with £364 to be donated.
