Agreement has finally been reached over a series of conditions associated with the construction of a £50million warehouse development in Sudbury.
Prolog was given permission to build two warehouses and offices on a 26,385 square metre site in Church Field Road nearly two years ago.
However the plans, which could create up to 500 jobs, were held up by concerns about how the development would affect the surrounding area.
The marketing and logistics firm, which already employs more than 400 people in Milner Road, also failed to accept restrictions set out by Babergh District Council regarding the build. It felt these terms were not realistic and wanted seven years to finish the development, after which it would only need to occupy the warehouses for 18 months.
In September a revised planning application was approved and all the conditions have now been approved.
Peter Tyrer, a company director, said this was “very pleasing” but a start date could still be some way off.
“Although we have permission we have to wait and see what happens regarding a legal review which was threatened last year,” he said.
“There are three months left in which that could happen and we cannot do anything in that period.”
Lady Valerie Hart, the owner of the Grade II listed Chilton Hall next to the site, said she would bring a legal challenge if the plans were to reach fruition. She claims the development would harm the historic building and the Grade I listed St Mary’s Church.
There have also been fears the site could be sold off once it has planning permission or only a small amount of jobs created.
“We hope the legal challenge does not come but at the moment we cannot make firm plans,” said Mr Tyrer.
He also failed to rule out moving the plans to the West Midlands – where it has premises – if there were further delays.
“If we gain more new business we have to have somewhere to put it,” he said.
