Everybody’s favourite antiques dealer, Lovejoy, could be set for a return to TV screens, with excitement growing in Long Melford.
Parts of the popular TV series – which ran from the 1980s to 90s – were set in the village, along with Cavendish and Lavenham.
It is believed that Tony Jordan, the creator of the hit series Hustle and Life on Mars, is writing a script for a remake of the Sunday night series, using Jonathan Gash’s original novels.
Businesses in Long Melford and the surrounding area will be hoping the series does return and generates the sort of tourism boom it did in previous decades, when the area was known as “Lovejoy country”.
Linda Cooke, manager of Long Melford Antiques Centre, said: “It did boost Melford and the surrounding area.
“It was quite bustling at the time. People would come up from London.”
She said a return to the area would help many of the shops in the village.
