Funds raised for the Poppy Appeal by the Sudbury and district branch of the Royal British Legion have raised £43,847, already £1,500 more than the total raised last year.
Branch chairman Stuart Hume said: “This has never been achieved at this time before and I do thank everyone most sincerely for donating so generously to the Appeal.”
Volunteers were situated throughout the town with collections and selling poppies.
Sudbury Tesco staff were particularly proud of the men and women who stood outside the shop.
Mel Edwards, the store’s community champion, said: “These guys who stood in all weathers in our foyer despite being invited into the warm and collected a massive £8,260.13.”
