Police launch investigation as arsonists strike again

Police are treating two fires which took place in the early hours of the morning on consecutive days as arson.

Firefighters were called to a derelict garage in Timperley Road, Hadleigh, at 2.10am on Tuesday. Crews put out the blaze and notified police, who were at the scene by 2.35am.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said: “The fire service believes the fire was started deliberately.

“It is being treated as suspicious and we will be investigating.”

Yesterday, at around 3.30am, police were called to a horse box fire in The Street in Raydon, near Hadleigh. On arrival, officers saw a suspicious vehicle which they followed, but it escaped along the country lanes.

The fire, in which no horses were involved, is also believed to be arson.

The incidents are the latest in a long line of suspected arson attacks in and around Hadleigh – the majority of which took place last year.

In November, three fuel tankers at UK Fuel Ltd on Lady Lane Industrial Estate were also set alight. A month later, a 20-year-old man from Hadleigh was arrested, but released without charge. Calls should be made to police on 101.
