A community-inspired event designed to showcase people’s talents has been hailed a success.

The Christopher Centre in Sudbury launched a new community market and car boot sale on Saturday, with a range of second-hand goods and creations on offer, including home-made preserves and one-off pieces of artwork.

Praising the event, Teresa Bishop, who manages the resource centre in Gainsborough Street, said: “It went very well; we were so pleased with the turnout.

“Lots of people have said how marvellous it was to come to a local event at last and to be able to talk to people again.”

Impressed by the high standard of talent on show, Mrs Bishop said: “We wanted local people to come along and celebrate what they do.”

Mrs Bishop commended the efforts of Kate Ginn, from Foxearth, who was among the stallholders to have created goods catering for a range of dietary needs.

“It’s not easy to get quality gluten-free things in the shop,” she said. “Some cafés are catering for it, but it’s very limited.”

Sudbury artist Penny Nichol, who helps to support members at the centre’s weekly arts and craft sessions, provided insight into her own work, which she showcased during the event.

“Her art is quite unique and colourful,” added Mrs Bishop.

The centre utilised both its indoor and outdoor space to enable stallholders and visitors to keep a safe distance from one another, while a one-way system was put in place to aid the measures.

Delighted by the response from those who attended the event, Mrs Bishop added: “People have commented and said they thought it was very well organised, and that they felt quite safe because everything was clearly laid out.”

The community market is being hosted on the last Saturday of every month, with the next event returning on August 29, between 9am and 1pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
