Youngsters at a nursery in Sudbury took part in an interactive sports session designed to promote physical development and fitness this week.
Children at Anglia Sunshine Nurseries in Warner Way joined in a series of games and sports, which featured rugby, basketball, football and tennis.
The sessions help to familiarise nursery children with various types of sports before they start primary school and are aimed at encouraging youngsters to develop social skills, while working as part of a team to boost confidence, communication and co-ordination.
“When they’re in reception class, PE can seem a bit daunting, so the sessions help them get used to different sports and games,” said Felicity Rose, nursery manager.
The children look forward to taking part in the weekly sessions, which are hosted on Tuesdays.
“It’s a really exciting part of their day – they love it,” added Mrs Rose.
While keeping fit playing various sports, the youngsters gain key skills each session.
“The classes focus on a specific area, which is based around their physical development, but it incorporates shapes and colours,” said Mrs Rose.
The group learn how to work together while providing support for their fellow classmates.
Mrs Rose added: “They praise each other – it’s very positive and they’re all very good friends.”
