PICTURES: Hundreds of paintings displayed at Clare Art Club's annual exhibition
Hundreds of paintings went on display in Clare last weekend as the town saw its annual art show take place in the town hall.
Clare Art Club members exhibited 250 framed pictures with many more crafts on display and for sale, including greetings cards and jewellery.
Club membership secretary Neil Piper said the show ran for four days, from Friday to Monday, each day from 10am to 5pm.
“It was a lot of hard work, but we always get a lot of compliments for it because we try hard to make a great presentation, and it works.
“We also have a great range of home-made cakes in our cafe and, interestingly, we got a visit from some bikers on Monday who were very grateful to stop off for a cup of tea and cake, as nowhere else was open.”
Mr Piper said the art club members did quite well for sales during the show, which is the club’s main show of the year.
He said the artwork was varied in terms of subject and media.
“All the pictures and craft work is for sale,” said Mr Piper. “The majority of members are showing artwork but we do have craft makers, such as jewellery makers, and you need an artistic flair to produce that kind of thing.”
Clare Art Club holds monthly meetings at the town’s Bell Hotel, where a visiting professional artist demonstrates a different style of medium each time.
The monthly demonstrations are also open to visitors for a small fee and are free to attend for Clare Art Club members.
