Pickpocket warning for Christmas shoppers

Police in Sudbury are reminding the public to take extra precautions against pickpockets, especially in the run up to Christmas.

Officers are distributing a crime prevention leaflet in the town centre which advises how to keep handbags and purses safe. Within the leaflet it gives the following advice:

• Keep your purse / wallet out of sight.

• Zip up your bag - never leave it open.

• Wear a shoulder bag across the front of your body.

• If people push or bump into you, always check your bag immediately.

• Do not leave your handbag on a shopping trolley or in a pushchair - always keep hold of it.

Sergeant Matt Paisley of the Sudbury and Cornard Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We are advising shoppers and the public to follow crime prevention advice and help protect themselves from thieves at this busy time of the year.

“Simply a bit of extra care can really stop you being a victim of this crime.”
