Petition set up to save towns’ free parking
A petition has been set up as part of a campaign against plans to end free parking in Sudbury and Hadleigh.
The Conservative Group of Babergh district councillors is discussing whether to end the free parking as the council faces budget cuts.
A campaign has been set up by local residents and business owners against the plans, which are not part of the council budget for 2016/2017.
Sudbury own Team manager Jane Hatton said: “We would like to obtain as many signatures as possible. We understand that charging for parking is not on the Babergh District Councils agenda at present but if the review body does put it forward, it could be on the agenda for next year.
“However, the majority who have expressed their views would like to show the strength of opposition now, to ensure that the review body does not put it forward and would like collect signatures for as long as introducing car parking charges is being considered.”
