Parents blown away by support for hospital unit

Fundraising for a new hospital bereavement suite has topped £4,000.

The money was raised by Dave and Sarah Gooderham, from Long Melford, who organised a charity race night and auction on Saturday.

The couple set about raising the funds as a thank you to West Suffolk Hospital after their son George was born six weeks premature last year. George spent more than two weeks in the hospital’s neonatal unit gaining strength after he was born weighing just 4lb 4oz.

Mr Gooderham, from Station Road, said the £4,400 raised was a positive step towards the creation of the £60,000 room, which will be dedicated to helping parents following the loss of a baby.

“From the moment we started organising the race night and auction, we have been truly humbled by the support we have received,” he said.

“We were blown away by the amount raised and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped us achieve such a tremendous sum.”

The current total is expected to be increased when Mr Gooderham and seven friends take on the Three Peaks Challenge for the hospital this July.
