TWO friends are looking to prove age is no barrier as they prepare for a 900-mile charity bike ride.
Jimmy Wilding, 69, and Dick Beechener, 63, both from Hadleigh, are becoming very accustomed to life in the saddle as they step up their training for the Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge.
The pair will take on the epic ride in support of Cancer Research.
Mr Wilding, of Lambert Close, said: “It’s an enormous challenge, but both Dick and I have our reasons.
“Dick lost his wife Linda to cancer about five years ago and my wife had breast cancer at around the same time, but I’m pleased to say she is still with me.”
The pair are no strangers to feats of endurance, having completed the London Marathon in the past.
“We both ran the marathon around 20 years ago,” said Mr Wilding.
“We thought we’d do something a bit wacky and, even though I hadn’t ridden for nearly 50 years, I’m in the swing of things now.”
The friends have been in training for months and aim to cycle between 62 and 85 miles a day. They set off on June 19.
