A NEW vicar of Clare has been appointed and will take up his new post in October.

The Rev Stuart Mitchell, who is currently rector of Rutland Water in the diocese of Peterborough, will be inducted at a special service in St Peter and St Paul Church in Clare on October 5. The service starts at 7.30pm.

He takes over from Canon John Rankin, who conducted his last service at the church in October after 18 years in Clare. Coincidentally, he and his wife Elizabeth went to spend their retirement in Rutland.

When he takes up his new office, the Rev Mitchell will cover the six parishes of Clare, Poslingford, Cavendish, Stoke by Clare, Wixoe and Hundon in the Stour Valley benefice.
