New blood for Boxford

A VILLAGE group, which has raised more than £50,000 towards community projects and events over the past 12 years, is searching for new blood to take over at the helm.

Roger Cunningham, chairman of Boxford Community Council, says several members of the group will be standing down after many years on the committee supporting local activities, and the council needs more people to come forward.

He said: “It is possible that the village feels that the Boxford Community Council has run its course and that the village’s needs are already served by other organisations that have come to the fore in recent years.”

He said the council had been going for 45 years but was now reaching “a crossroads in its life-cycle”.

Members were hoping to hear from new volunteers at a meeting on Tuesday night. More than 30 groups have been helped by the council.

Mr Cunningham added: “Over the years, the council has evolved to provide a vehicle for village organisations in Boxford, Edwardstone and Groton to share information and solutions and to provide a source of funding, especially important to those who find great difficulty in raising funds themselves.”
