Mystery buskers star in concert fundraiser

BIG SUCCESS: The concert.

Three teenagers who recently hit the headlines for donating a day’s profits to charity, were guest performers at a concert in St Peter’s in Sudbury.

The concert was organised by staff from the Somerville group, in memory of music-lover and employee John Butcher, who worked for the company for 20 years up until his death in 2013.

The concert was set up to raise money for UK charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and included local acts, including a surprise appearance from the charity buskers, as well as employees from the Somerville group.

“We had a loose target of £1,500,” said Allison Burke, executive assistant at Somerville.

“We have actually raised just under £3,000 so it’s been a really pleasant surprise.”

Allison is also a member of local band The Bijou Toots, made up of singers, ukuleles and accordions, who performed on the night.

They also played with the busking trio and The Maytals for a special rendition of Monkey Man.

Allison added that plans were already taking shape to hold the concert again next year as it had proved “such a success”.
