Bury St Edmunds MP Jo Churchill will be meeting with representatives of HM Courts and Tribunal Service on Thursday to discuss what measures are being taken over the closure of the Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court.
When the closure was announced, the service said alternative arrangements would be made to maintain local justice in Bury St Edmunds.
Mrs Churchill said today: “I have called for this meeting to be held between local stakeholders, local leaders and representatives from HM Courts and Tribunal Service because the establishment of an alternative local provision of local justice to Bury St Edmunds, in place of Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court, is paramount.
“I want clarity over the closure of Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court and to push ahead with the consideration of all alternative options, so that my constituents know what the future of their local justice will look like.”
The meeting will be held at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court, which will become Suffolk’s only magistrates’ court.
