Shoppers at a supermarket in Sudbury have given in their hundreds, leaving a charity “overwhelmed” by the amount of food collected during an annual appeal.
The Stour Valley Vineyard Church asked shoppers at Waitrose to donate whatever they could at the weekend.
The goods given have since been collected and food hampers will now be delivered to those families and individuals most in need over Christmas.
Andrew Stewart-Darling, senior church pastor, said: “It’s been outstanding. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Waitrose customers and the community.”
Food can still be donated at the store this week.
