Three men have been charged with theft, after burglaries at a hardware store in Earls Colne and a supermarket in Sible Hedingham last week.

The police were alerted shortly after 3.30am on Thursday, to an incident in High Street, Earls Colne, where it was reported that entry had been forced into a hardware store and five charity boxes were stolen.

Soon after, police were called out at around 4am to reports of a burglary at the Co-op store in Swan Street, Sible Hedingham, which resulted in a quantity of cigarettes being stolen.

Officers from Essex Police and Suffolk Police joined forces and, working on information provided to them, were led to an address on Elm Close in Haverhill.

Subsequently, Jamie Darby, 38, of Westfield, Sudbury, Paul Batterby, 39, of Eastern Avenue, Haverhill, and Jonathon Jolly, of Dunsey Wood Close, Haverhill, were all arrested and later charged on two separate counts of burglary.

All three men are due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on May 3.
