A man has died after falling into a river in Hadleigh earlier today.

Suffolk Police were called at about 7.15am to reports an elderly man had fallen into the River Brett.

Officers went into the river and pulled the man to safety.

He was unconscious but still breathing at the time.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance attended but it is thought a land ambulance took the man to Ipswich Hospital, where he died later this morning.

Inspector Andy Pursehouse, of Suffolk Police, said the man’s death was not being treated as suspicious.

“From our point of view it appeared to be an accident but a coroner will investigate,” he said.
