A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing into five parked cars in Long Melford on Saturday morning.

The 23-year-old from Sudbury was arrested at his home after fleeing the scene in Hall Street, Long Melford.

The collision left the vehicles, including the driver’s white Vauxhall Astra van, with extensive damage, while a traffic light was also badly damaged.

Police were called to the collision at 5.15am on Saturday (May 16) by members of the public.

Rob Simpson, who lives in the village said: “My wife and I walk our dogs there every morning, and it’s close to the paper shop, so it’s extremely lucky no one was killed, or seriously injured.”

The man has been bailed to return to the police investigation centre in Bury St Edmunds on June 23.

Anybody who witnessed the incident or has any information should contact Suffolk Police on 101 quoting SU/15/1112.
