A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbing the post office in Hitcham last week.

The suspect approached the counter of the post office in The Causeway on Thursday, at about 2.50pm, and demanded money from the staff.

He claimed to be in possession of a firearm, although no weapon was seen.

The man then left the premises with tobacco but no cash, before fleeing in a car with another person.

On Monday evening, police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of robbery, and transported him to the Suffolk Constabulary Investigation Centre in Bury St Edmunds for questioning.

The man has now been released, pending further enquiries, and must answer bail on Tuesday, June 11.

Officers would still like to hear from anybody with information about this incident, including CCTV or dashboard camera footage.

If you can help, get in touch with Suffolk Police by calling 101, quoting the crime reference number 37/27779/19.

Alternatively, telephone the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555111.
