Council workers have been moving heavy equipment on to the side of the A1071 near Polstead in readiness for repairs to the road surface.
Suffolk County Council intends closing a section of the main road from Sudbury to Ipswich near Polstead for three nights to carry out essential maintenance and resurfacing work.
The closures take place overnight from Wednesday, June 19, to Friday, June 21, and the road will be shut from 7pm and reopen again at 6am the following morning.
The section of road runs from the U8909 at Coram Street, Hadleigh, to the U8330 at Bower House Tye in Polstead.
The council is setting up diversions via Lavenham using the A1141 through Monks Eleigh to Sudbury.
The diversions will be in place at night, with traffic able to use the A1071 during the day.
Sue Wigglesworth, ward councillor for the area, said there were problems with speeding traffic.
“There are quite a lot of issues with that stretch of road; locally, they want the speed of the traffic reduced,” she said.
“I do not know if the council intends to put up any more speed warning signs on the bend,” she added.
Details of the roadworks have been posted on Polstead Parish Council’s website.
