Lavenham Pharmacy and Post Office was closed yesterday morning after an unoccupied van rolled into the front of the shop.

The Ford Transit van, which had been parked nearby, damaged the area near the tills but did not enter the shop in the High Street.

Suffolk Police say they were called just before 8am to reports that the van had run into the shop.

The building was checked by council surveyors and will be examined by structural engineers today.

A staff member said: “Nobody was here. It would have given you a hell of a shock if you had been on the tills.

“Nobody was in the van and, luckily there were no pedestrians. If it had been half an hour later there would have been school children out there.”

Police say the van driver has been reported for consideration of motoring offences while they investigate.
