A FOOTBALL match in memory of a soldier who died in Afghanistan has raised over £1,200 for charity.

The Lavenham Charity Challenge on October 1 featured a team from Lavenham Royal British Legion taking on Household Cavalry soldiers to commemorate the life of Lance Corporal Jonathan Woodgate, who served with the Household Cavalry, who was killed on duty in March 2010.

The amount raised by the event currently stands at £1,205, with a further £280 expected from the sale of football shirts. Proceeds will be split between the Royal British Legion and the Household Cavalry Operational Casualties’ Fund, and a charity rugby match is being arranged for November 26 at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club.
