A number of large kitchen knives were found close to a children’s play area in Great Waldingfield.

The five items, along with some other objects, were found dumped on an area of green space on the junction of Bantocks Road and Folly Road.

A resident, who was alerted to the items after her daughter spotted them, removed the dangerous objects from the street, before contacting the community wardens at Sudbury Town Council.

Warden Bradley Smith, who collected the items, was surprised by the find.

“We were shocked,” he said. “I have been working in this role for 12 years, and I have never discovered anything like that.

“Someone obviously cleared out their kitchen and dumped them.”

A children’s play area is located about 100 yards from where the discarded items were found.

Mr Smith expressed his gratitude to the person for removing the sharp objects from the street.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the resident,” said Mr Smith, who plans to drop them off at a knife amnesty bin at Sudbury Police Station.

He added that he hoped the act was an isolated incident, and reminded people that unwanted items should be disposed of responsibly, or taken to Sudbury’s household waste recycling centre.
