FIVE families are today waking up in new homes after the completion of an affordable housing development in Great Cornard.
Colne Housing Society recently handed over the last of its properties on the Bures Road site, allowing people with a connection to the village to move in while paying rent that is below the market average.
The new homes are believed to be vital to the area, with 1,400 people on housing waiting lists while 69 per of new households cannot afford to buy and 40 per cent are unable to meet private rents.
Bill Frame, chairman of Colne Housing, said: “With these statistics in mind, we are delighted that we have been able to provide the village with these much-needed affordable homes.
“These final five houses have now completed our involvement in the development, which has seen us able to house 107 families in new properties.”
