A local learner has been toasted by the Mayor of Sudbury and The Befriending Scheme at an event in Sudbury celebrating her commitment to learning and the contribution she has made in inspiring others.

Fiona Allen, from Acton, was named runner up for Inspirational Learner of the Year at the Suffolk Adult Learner of the Year Awards last month.

Fiona took part in two courses with The Befriending Scheme, impressing enough for them to nominate her but sadly was unable to attend the Awards Ceremony at UCS Ipswich.

Not wanting her to miss out on celebrating her achievement, The Befriending Scheme organised a special ceremony, attended by the mayor, to award her certificate.

Befriending Scheme CEO Shirley Moore said: “Fiona inspires other learners simply by participating without demanding any special treatment and overcomes any obstacles through her unfussy and common sense approach and quick intelligence, she is an inspiration.”
