Hospital patients treated to ice lollies
Patients and ward staff at West Suffolk Hospital are being given free ice lollies to keep them cool during the summer heatwave.
The Bury St Edmunds hospital did the same last year, handing out lollies to patients and people in the emergency department’s waiting room.
Tracey Oats, head of nursing at the hospital, said: “The lollies were really well received last year, so we decided to repeat the initiative during the current heatwave.
“They have gone down just as well this time around, with patients and staff both grateful for the little gift.
“Our thanks to the catering team for arranging the delivery so quickly and to staff on the wards for helping make sure everyone received their ice.”
The ice lollies are made from 100 percent fruit with no added sugar or colour. They also contain just 16 calories so are suitable for everyone.
Patient Viv Arnold from Honington, pictured, said she thought the lollies were a great idea and thanked staff for keeping patients topped up with ice water during the day.
