A HORSE was rescued by firefighters after falling into a water-filled ditch.

Crews from Sudbury and Long Melford were called to help the stricken animal after it became stuck in a ditch at Swift Manor Farm Riding School in Preston St Mary shortly before 4.30pm on Tuesday.

A vet was at the scene assessing the situation when firefighters arrived and aided the rescue effort, which was carried out using ropes.

The horse was freed uninjured by 5.15pm.
