Firefighters were called to rescue a horse in Clare after the animal became trapped up to its neck in a water-filled ditch.

On Saturday evening, a fire crew from Clare, a water rescue unit from Bury St Edmunds and a specialist team from South Woodham Ferrers in Essex were called to the ditch, located near the football ground in Clare.

Their first attempt to pull the horse free using a hose was unsuccessful.

While waiting for the Essex team to arrive, a local resident was able to help by using their 4x4 vehicle to pull the horse free.
