Hobbit hole gets the green light for Suffolk glamping company
Planning approval has been secured for what a Suffolk business claims is the first habitable Hobbit hole in the country.
Glamping business West Stow Pods intends to create the Hobbit hole based on the descriptions in JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit books.
We intend to capture the magic of Tolkien for visitors to enjoy.
West Stow Pods is an established glamping - luxury camping - company developed by Ed Lengyel and Jan Lengyel offering cosy en-suite Glamping Megapods set in secluded woodland.
The Hobbit hole will accommodate four or five people and will have a Victorian styled interior with a log burner, two double bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom.
The exterior will be built into a grassy bank, have a round yellow door and enchanting window.

Work will start later this year under the close supervision of Tolkien Society member Alan Baxter to ensure authenticity.
Jan added: “Historic West Stow is the perfect location for a Hobbit Hole to be reconstructed.
“Tolkien’s own inspiration – the original ‘Middangearth’ or ‘Middle Earth’ of the Anglo-Saxons can be explored at the Anglo-Saxon Village at West Stow Country Park.”
Ed and Jan Lengyel are seeking crowd funding via Kickstarter to support this exciting development.
Jan said: “With the support of Kickstarter crowd funding we will be able to complete the project for next year’s bookings.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to create a unique and individual holiday experience that captures the magic of Tolkien’s storytelling.”
Anyone can be part of creating the first habitable Hobbit Hole in the UK by pledging any sum from £2 to make it happen.
Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.
Jan said: “If the project gains full support the build will go ahead and you will receive a special thank you in return, together with a reward allocated to the amount pledged.”
