A man from Hitcham, who was caught with indecent images of children on his mobile phone, has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

Ryan Ellis, 27, of Bildeston Road, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court last Thursday, after pleading guilty to three separate offences of making indecent images of a child.

Prosecutor Michael Crimp told the court that when police officers examined a mobile phone belonging to Ellis, they discovered more than 400 illegal pictures.

Of the 422 images that were saved onto the device, 144 of them were subsequently determined to be in the most serious category of offence.

Judge Martyn Levett sentenced Ellis to 14 months imprisonment, which has been suspended for two years.

In addition, Ellis will also be required to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work, and participate in a 60 day rehabilitation programme.

Appearing for Ellis in mitigation, Isabel Ascherson said her client had sought professional help to address his behaviour.
