Four guns have been stolen during a burglary at a home near Hadleigh.

Officers were initially contacted around 6.05pm yesterday, Tuesday 23 February, by a member of the public who reported they had found a gun cabinet in a ditch in a field at Bildeston Road in Wattisham. It appeared to have been forced open.

A short time later, around 6.45pm, police received another call reporting the break-in at Semer, north of Hadleigh, where a firearms cabinet containing four weapons – a Remington 700 heavy calibre rifle, a Ruger rifle, a Browning 12-bore over and under shotgun and a Baikal side by side 12 bore shotgun - had been taken.

It’s thought the burglary occurred sometime after midday on Saturday 20 February.

A number of rounds of ammunition were also stolen.

Officers are asking anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in either of these areas, or anyone with information about who stole the items, to contact Ipswich CID by dialling Suffolk Police on 101, quoting crime number 19130/16.

Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
