Halstead Town Football Club hailed the support of police and the local community after falling victim to a vandalism incident.

Security cameras recorded a culprit smashing a window at the clubhouse in Rosemary Lane at around 2.30pm last Friday and attempting to break in, before fleeing the scene.

A statement from the club said the CCTV footage is being analysed closely, in the hope of bringing the person responsible to justice.

“A big thanks to Essex Police, who attended promptly but missed the mindless moron by minutes,” the statement said.

“We are a community/volunteer club who run on a tight budget and these incidents hurt us badly in the pocket, but, as always, the negatives they cause are mitigated by the positive messages of support that we get from the community – so thank you to all.

“We will not be beaten and the 140-year existence of the club will continue for another 140 years – beyond the life cycle of these idiots.”

Anyone who has any information about what happened is asked to get in touch with Essex Police by telephoning 101.
