Hadleigh traders met a Tesco representative last night to find out what the supermarket can do to safeguard existing business if is persists with plans to build in the town.
Hadleigh Chamber of Commerce was due to meet Simon Petar, from Tesco, and Robert Posselt, from London planning consultancy Martin Robeson, at the Guildhall.
Traders oppose the development of the Brett Works site, and are against a supermarket built there on traffic, access and retail impact grounds.
They claim a further supermarket is not needed after Morrisons opened last year, and argue that if it did go ahead it would “damage the vitality of the high street.”
Tesco’s plans are due to go before Babergh District Council on July 4.
