A Hadleigh charity, which organises events to help people over the age of 60 to socialise, has voiced its gratitude, after receiving a £500 donation from a housebuilder.

The Hadleigh Elderly People’s Welfare Committee chairman received a cheque from developer McCarthy and Stone to help fund the group’s social outings for retirees.

Cheryl Bissett, regional sales director for McCarthy and Stone, said: "It is such a worthy local cause.

"We were keen to show our support for a group that allows retirees to enjoy the company of like-minded individuals in a warm and welcoming environment."
