Grenade blown up in Nayland

A HAND grenade, discovered at a home in Nayland, has been blown up by police.

The explosive, which was found in Bear Street when a resident was clearing their house out, was found this morning at around 11am.

Police and Colchester Bomb Disposal Squad attended and, unable to determine whether the grenade was live or not, carried out a controlled explosion. The road was closed at 2.45pm and reopened 20 minutes later.
