Hundreds of students at Thomas Gainsborough School in Great Cornard have united to create a poignant poppy display, ahead of the Armistice Day commemorations on Remembrance Sunday.

The school’s year groups collaborated on a striking montage of individual poppies to create a feature hanging from the building’s central staircase.

Kirsty French, drama teacher at the school, spent a total of 10 hours putting together the display, along with colleague Amie Gammon.

Kirsty said: “We felt it was important to commemorate the 100 years and we felt the size of the central staircase lent itself to something dramatic.

“We hoped it would stand out and I think everyone is really impressed with the final product.

“It has certainly been a great way of getting our young students engaged with such an important anniversary.”
