Golfers hand over money

A YEAR of fundraising by members of Newton Green Golf Club raised £1,400 for a cancer charity.

Men’s captain Alan Cunningham chose to support Cancer Research UK last year – and a number of inventive methods to raise money, including a bunker tax of 20p each time a golfer found sand, helped boost the total.

Earlier this month, Mr Cunningham presented the charity, which supports the work of those finding new ways to diagnose, treat and prevent cancer, with a cheque for £1,400.

Louise Cook, area manger for the charity, paid tribute to the club and its members.

“Alan and everyone at the golf club have been amazing and have made a huge difference to our research,” she said.

“We are just so grateful for their support as 90 per cent of our donations are £10 or under, so what they raised is a testament to their hard work.”
