Former building company director admits 18 offences of fraud

A former building company director from Thurston has appeared in court to plead guilty to 18 offences of fraud.

Carl Shrubshall, 48, was charged following an investigation by Suffolk County Council’s Trading Standards department into issues involving four properties.

On Friday Shrubshall, who was a director of Beckwill Builders Ltd, based in Bury St Edmunds, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to 18 offences, including fraud by false represention and fraud by abuse of position, committed between April 2010 and January 2013. Shrubshall is accused of failing to obtain insurance cover to provide a Local Authority Building Control Warranty and falsely claiming to have obtained cover and received payment in respect of another house.

Other charges involve excuses made by Shrubshall for his inability to complete building work including telling customers that he was suffering from poor health.

Judge John Devaux agreed to defer sentencing until July 8 to allow for a pre sentence report.
