A by-election is to be held in Long Melford to fill two parish council vacancies.

The election will take place on January 14, to fill the spaces vacated by Helen Spear and Sarah Wordley.

There had been calls for the council to stand down en masse after well-publicised tensions within the council led to police being called to meetings on more than one occasion.

But some councillors refused this so a by-election will be contested by five candidates.

The candidates are Graham Eade, Angela McKenna, Matthew Dempsey, Ian Rockett and Ann Hinds.

Polling stations will be based in the United Reformed Church Hall and The Old School.
