PLANS to extend a house in The Street in Assington have been described as “prominent and incongruous” by council officers who have recommended planning permission be refused.

Proposed single and two-storey extensions to the front, side and rear of Orchard Cottage have come under fire from planners at Babergh District Council.

A report, to be discussed at Wednesday’s development committee, says: “The proposed two-storey extension by reason of its design, form, scale and location ... would, if allowed, form a prominent and incongruous addition to the dwelling that would be detrimental to the character and appearance of the street scene and would have an adverse impact on the quality of the special landscape area.”
